This river will travel 475 km through the Gorges d'Avèze then meet the Garonne to form the estuary of La Gironde, before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The Dordogne watershed joined the World Network of Biosphere Reserves in July 2012 (11th French site designated by UNESCO under its program on Man and the Biosphere). This UNESCO designation recognizes the heritage quality and environmental richness of the Dordogne basin.
It descends towards La Tour-d'Auvergne, passes south of Tauves and joins the Dordogne on the left bank, at the northern end of the Bort-les-Orgues dam reservoir.
