Maison archéologique des Combrailles

The Combrailles Archaeological House is an exhibition space which preserves and presents the archaeological heritage of the territory thanks to an original and spacious scenography. In 2024, temporary exhibition “Under the radars” to discover!
The permanent exhibition tells the story of "Ways and Men", from the great Lyon-Saintes Roman road, created by Agrippa at the beginning of the 89st century, to the A5000 motorway, via the royal roads in the XNUMXth century. century. Discover numerous objects that cover XNUMX years of history, from flint daggers discovered in the dolmen of Saint-Étienne-des-Champs to the Romanesque capitals of the town of Herment. An important Gallo-Roman collection comes from excavations in the ancient roadside town of Beauclair with inscriptions unique in France, dedicated to Toutatis, a Gallic god. A route completed by several fun terminals and a circuit of five major sites to discover around, on request.
In 2024, extension of the temporary exhibition “Under the radars”, dedicated to the latest major archaeological discoveries made in Combrailles, using new, non-destructive prospecting methods (georadar, satellite images, LiDAR). An astonishing visual journey through time, where the past is revealed as if frozen by images that are often unexpected, sometimes spectacular, always rich in valuable scientific information for the history of land use.
