Classified as a Grand Site de France and located near Clermont-Ferrand, the Puy de Dôme is the emblematic figure of the entire department to which it gave its name in 1791. This Pelean-type volcano reigns from its height of 1 m over the Chaîne des Puys and its 465 volcanoes, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.

Among the 80 volcanoes listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, only the Puy de Dôme is accessible to everyone thanks to the electric cogwheel train, the Panoramique des Dômes, which takes you to an altitude of 1 meters in 465 minutes and reveals a remarkable view of this unique geological ensemble in the world.

Hiking ideas
Access to the summit of the puy de dome
By car, from Orcival, take the D27 towards Nébouzat, then at the roundabout take the 2nd exit towards Puy de Dôme. Go over the Moréno pass. At the Font-de-l'Arbre roundabout, turn left then continue to the Panoramique des Dômes station.

On foot along the mule track : continue on the road for 3 km to the Col de Ceyssat car park. Then follow the hiking trail. The climb takes 45 minutes (elevation gain of 350 metres).
