It is the reservoir of the EDF dam at Bort-les-Orgues. It was commissioned in 1952, after 10 years of work. With a height of 120 meters, it is the first and largest dam located on the Dordogne.

Le Bort-les-Orgues dam has the 4th largest detention in France. It extends over twenty kilometers over 3 departments: Corrèze, Cantal and Puy de Dôme. Beyond its main function which is the production of electricity, the dam also plays the role of regulator of the flows of the Dordogne. It has also made it possible to develop, through the creation of its lake, tourist and leisure activities. (Source: Corrèze Tourism).
