Jouvion peat bog (Saint-Donat)

Located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, close to St-Donat, this peat bog represents man's traditional highland mountain farming activity.

For a long time it was grazed or cut, and was abandoned during the first decade of this century. Acquired by the department and commune of St-Donat, it is now protected as a sensitive natural area. This means that farming practices that are respectful of the peat bog and waterside grasssland are encouraged, and steps towards increasing the populations of rare animals and plants which live here are being implemented.
A short and easy route enables visitors to discover a pioneer environment (a pool created from each part) for finding out how the flora and fauna appropriate new natural environments.
