Located at the foot of Sancy massif, about sixty kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand and only 7 km from La Bourboule, La Tour d'Auvergne is a small town nestled in the heart of an exceptional environment. With its developed lake and its original historical heritage, it is asserting itself as a major destination in Puy-de-Dôme.

La Tour d'Auvergne 63 was classified as a Tourist Commune in 2015 because of its infrastructure and points of interest. One of the assets of La Tour d'Auvergne is its privileged location in the heart of a preserved natural site. This town built on a basaltic plateau which rises to 900 meters above sea level is crossed by many rivers. There are several natural waterfalls, the most famous of which are those of Stone Bridge, St. Elizabeth and Gour of horses. It is also possible to admire sumptuous basalt organs. These natural curiosities result from particular geological formations which create an evocative relief of prismatic columns.
Below the village, the Auvergne lake Built in the 60s, it offers a myriad of water activities: fishing, supervised swimming and water games. This space has been awarded the Blue Flag because of its comfort and safety. In 2023, the municipality did not request the renewal of its Blue Flag label.
In winter, the Nordic area Sancy West allows beautiful walks in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
La Tour d'Auvergne 63: a rich and fascinating history
Dominated by the statue Our Lady of Natzy, La Tour d'Auvergne, is a former barony of the XNUMXth century (Queen Margot was its descendant). The history of La Tour d'Auvergne is intrinsically linked to that of Marguerite de Valois, daughter of Catherine de Medici, better known as “Queen Margot”. The latter was the heiress of part of the former barony of the Tower and of the eponymous castle, of which there are still vestiges today (small wall at the top of the basalt organs). It is possible to admire other emblematic buildings from medieval times, such as Saint-Pardoux Church built in the XNUMXth century at the entrance to the village.
