Reaching a height of 1,515 metres, la Banne d’Ordanche is a peak with volcanic origins which formed more than 2 million years ago, before undergoing significant erosion by wind and ice.
La Banne d’Ordanche
The name Banne stems from the local word for horn, as demonstrated by its slender outline. It enjoys 360° views over the 3 chains of volcanoes in the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne: la Chaîne des Dômes, les Monts-Dore and le Massif Cantalien. An important summer pasture land on which herds of sheep graze.
