Our advice for your bike rides in Puy-de-Dôme
To prepare your bike rides (for the day or on the GTMC), find our practical information on transport, parking, recharging your battery, water points, etc.
How do I get to Auvergne VolcanSancy with my bike?
You will travel by train to Clermont-Ferrand station. All SNCF trains allow you to travel with your bike, but be careful, the rules for acceptance vary!
– On board TGV INOUI and INTERCITÉS trains, you have three options:
- On a reserved seat (service by reservation when purchasing the ticket, chargeable, limited number of seats per train).
- With your folding bike, if it is folded and provided that it measures a maximum of 130x90cm when folded.
- With your bike dismantled and stored in a transport cover (130x90cm)
– On board TER trains: your bike travels free of charge, suspended or placed in a space provided for this purpose. These spaces are accessible subject to availability and cannot be reserved. You also have the option of traveling with your bike dismantled under a 120X90cm cover.
– On board OUIGO trains: your bike must be folded or dismantled and stored in a cover (€5 charge)
By bus, 3 bus lines cross the Auvergne VolcanSancy territory
Since January 1, 2023, TER SNCF coaches have become Regional coaches. All intercity buses are required to carry at least 5 bicycles on board. Remember to reserve a place for your bicycle by contacting the carrier in advance.

Where can I park my bike near the Tourist Office?
Bike racks are available:
- in front of the Orcival reception office (basilica side),
- in front of the Cap Guéry Mountain Center
- in front of the Tauves reception office
The bay windows will allow you to keep an eye on your bike and/or your bags.
Where can I charge my e-bike battery?
In all the Tourist Office reception desks electrical outlets can be used if necessary (1 hour maximum charge) on request from a travel advisor and during our opening hours.
Need accurate weather in the area?
Although weather hazards are inherent to cycling on the move, they are always less unpleasant when they are anticipated!

Where can I find toilets and water points near our reception offices?
Fellow cyclists, we will be happy to fill your water bottles upon request in all of our stores. reception desks during opening hours.
Public toilets are located nearby our 5 reception offices.
In addition you will find:
- au Cap Guéry mountain center : 1 tap outside the building from May to October, toilets inside the building (during our opening hours) and dry toilets in the parking lot
- withStele nature sports area : toilets and something to fill your water bottle in the picnic room open all year round 7/7
Where can I park my vehicle for a few days?
If you want to park your vehicle for a short or long period in order to spend a few days roaming the GTMC, Several solutions are available to you :
- Col du Guéry car park (50m from the Cap Guéry mountain centre)
- Parking along the D27 in Orcival
- Motorhome areas of the territory
Please note that these car parks are not closed or monitored.
Can you go to the top of the Puy de Dôme by bike?
Access to the summit of the Puy de Dôme is prohibited to traffic, including cyclists, except for a few authorized events.
Two possibilities to access it:
- on foot by the mule path
- with the rack railway The Panoramic view of the domes
How to join the GTMC mountain bike route from the Cap Guéry Mountain Center?
Take the D983 for 6 kilometers, towards Lac de Servières.
La Great Crossing of the Massif Central by Mountain Bike then go along the lake, follow the markings!
Where can I find a bicycle rental and repair shop, partner of the Tourist Office?
Our partners offer bike rentals or repairs.
We also provide you with a repair kit for minor damage in the reception offices. d'Orcival and Cap Guéry Mountain Center, on request, during our opening hours: pump, tire lever, lubricant, patches (one-off loan only).
Where can I get 100% cycling documentation for the Auvergne VolcanSancy destination?
Free download of GPX tracks and sheets of our Cyclo and VTT routes as well as the Grand Sancy cyclo map (650 kilometers of roads to discover in the heart of the volcanoes, 8 loops from 38 to 151 km, 3 levels of difficulty) or in our reception offices.
The Great Crossing of the Massif Central (GTMC) stretches over 1400 km between the Morvan massif and the Mediterranean. Signposted and certified by the French Cycling Federation, this version crisscrosses the roads of Puy-de-Dôme over 200 km. Stage 14 crosses the destination Auvergne VolcanSancy over about forty kilometers.
