Where to practice mountain biking in the surroundings and in the Puy de Sancy?
Finding a mountain bike ride in Auvergne or a mountain bike circuit near the Puy de Sancy, as everywhere else, is not always a simple task and can discourage more than one. That's why we've listed some of them. You can choose your mountain bike circuit in the Sancy according to their location, their distance, their duration and also their elevation. Essential criteria for choosing a course adapted to your level.
Why try a mountain bike ride in the Puy-de-Dôme?
Mountain biking is a complete sport, which allows you to work on muscle strengthening, cardio, to control your breathing, your concentration. This sport taking place in nature also allows athletes to discover the region from another angle. Certain mountain bike circuits in Puy-de-Dôme, in Auvergne, as well as the bicycle tourism on bike road, offer magnificent views of the volcanoes, accessible only by this means.

Advice and security
- Take the marked paths in the right direction of traffic for your own safety and respect for private property
- Do not take shortcuts, they dig and deteriorate the paths
- Respect the fauna and flora and keep your rubbish
- Wear protective helmet, goggles and gloves
- Remain careful and courteous when overtaking or crossing with hikers (equip your mountain bike with a buzzer to signal to pedestrians)
- Check the condition of your equipment, plan your supply (water, food) and provide a repair kit
- Mastering your speed, not overestimating yourself and adapting your behavior to the conditions on the ground
- Avoid going alone. Otherwise, inform a relative of the route taken.
The GTMC on a mountain bike or VTAE
Since 2018, the Grande Traversée du Massif Central (GTMC) covers 1400 km between the Morvan massif and the Mediterranean. Marked and labeled by the French cycling federation, this version crosses the department of Puy-de-Dôme over 200 km. Stage 14 crosses the Auvergne VolcanSancy destination for around forty kilometres.
