To the south-west of Sancy, the plateau of Artense gently undulates its vast plateaus, planed by glaciers.
A granite plateau
To the southwest of Massif of Sancy, this country of moors and woods is also that of water. Many basins containing wet meadows, bogs or small lakes alternate with rocky mounds. The farms of Artense hide behind the folds of ground, the groves and the rocks.

- Straddling Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme, Artense is limited to the west by the Dordogne valley, to the south and east by the Rhue, and ends in the north, on the first foothills of the Monts Dore.
- Its landscapes are marked by glacial erosion, forests, peat bogs, lakes and rivers. The rock is present everywhere: in the habitat, in the middle of the fields and in the innumerable dry stone walls which border the old paths.
Many towns have preserved endearing testimonies of the small rural heritage: bread ovens, fountains, wayside crosses...
