Visual artist Cyrille Courte in Saint-Sauves-d'Auvergne
In residence at Maison Garenne from April to June 2025
In residence at Maison Garenne from April to June 2025
Do you know what a lightning rod looks like? Have you ever seen lightning-struck rocks? Do you know how to recognize them?
Next month, Maison Garenne will welcome artist Cyrille Courte within its walls. Fascinated by lightning, the visual artist will reside at Maison Garenne for three months to create his lightning-themed works.
He will initially set off to explore the Dômes Sancy Artense region. This will involve taking visual, sound, and electromagnetic recordings, and collecting clues by visiting so-called "keraunic" areas, meaning those that are more frequently struck by lightning than others. Equipped with a variety of instruments, he will be outside—under cover, of course—to directly record the storms as they pass by.
Then a series of lightning rod works will be created, a central lightning capture work, a sound diffusion of intra-cloud rumblings, and some piles of lightning-struck rocks taken from the Dômes Sancy Artense territory will be presented.
In the coming months, he will also meet with schools and leisure centers in the area for mediation workshops related to lightning and lightning rods.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the opening of his residence on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 18 p.m. at the Maison Garenne in Saint-Sauves-d'Auvergne to discover his world over a glass of friendship.
